Is my company ready for export? How can my business increase export sales? What international markets are available? What risks are associated with export? How can I reduce these risks? How can my business benefit from exporting?
Many of us are puzzling over these questions, and to provide more insight into these and other issues, we hosted a one-day export trade conference on September 15th, 2008. Conference speakers talked about the mechanics of regional container shipping operations, and the risks and opportunities associated with international trade. This was not only an information-gathering session, but also a great chance to connect with business people from across the Northwest who were posing the same questions and weighing the same opportunities.
Our conference agenda featured the Prince Rupert Port Authority, Maher Terminals, Canadian National Railway and the Coast Tsimshian. Each organization spoke about its respective role in the North Coast container shipping chain and future plans for development.
Dr. David Fung, National Chair of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association, spoke about short-haul container shipping on North America's West Coast.
Trade Commissioner, Meera Bawa, from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, spoke about international market opportunities for Northern British Columbia exports; and, Tom Prowse from Export Development Canada discussed how to identify and reduce export risks.
Our program included an opportunity to see the container terminal, and to take part in our trade show to network with like-minded businesses. Registration fees included conference admission and display space in our trade show, lunch, and a reception on Monday evening.
We have adjusted this page to act as an archive for the information exchange during the Conference. If you attended our Conference and would like to sign the Guest Book, please click here. Copies of the speaker presentations and information on ordering the DVD of the Conference will be available soon.
